Som Comum: Como pode a música nos unir?

Numa aldeia indígena, no deserto da Austrália, num desfile militar ou num festival no Alentejo, grupos humanos insistem em se reunir. Há entre eles um som comum, algo que os motiva a estar juntos. Mas como pode a música os unir? Em The Songlines (O Canto Nómada), Bruce Chatwin rascunha algumas teses sobre a relação entre o som e o sentido. A partir de algumas de suas intuições, vamos revisitar algumas ideias sobre o assunto de modo a conversar sobre como os sons que partilhamos podem ser cruciais para nos unir, para tecer a malha de uma comunidade, cada vez mais ameaçada pelo egoísmo, pelo isolamento, pelo sedentarismo e pela solidão.

Common Sound: How can music unite us?

In an indigenous village, in the Australian desert or at a festival in the Alentejo, in a military parade, human groups insist on coming together. There is a common sound among them, something that motivates them to be together. But how can music bring them together? In The Songlines, Bruce Chatwin sketches out some theses on the relationship between sound and meaning. Based on some of his insights, we're going to revisit some ideas on the subject in order to talk about how the sounds we share can be crucial in uniting us, in weaving the fabric of a community, which is increasingly threatened by selfishness, isolation, sedentariness and loneliness.
